This version of Maze 3.0: Shifting Boundaries is a collaboration between Passoverdance (Hong Kong) and NUS Dance Synergy (Singapore). With 12 dancers from each group guided by the vision of Pewan Chow, Artistic Director of Passoverdance, and Yarra Ileto, Artistic Director of NUS Dance Synergy, Maze 3.0 provides an artistic endeavour through the medium of dance.

Maze 3.0: Shifting Boundaries is the work of Pewan Chow, recipient of this year’s Artist of the Year (Dance) by the Hong Kong Arts Development Council, and Artistic Director of Passoverdance. It is also a sequel to Maze, winner of the 2013 Hong Kong Dance Award for Outstanding Independent Production. The work addresses the boundaries in our society or systems, where “the boundaries may be constantly shifted”. It is reflected in the sets – 35 movable pillars. In some moments, the dancers dance between the pillars; in others, they move the pillars on the stage. It symbolises boundaries that may be changed and prompts the audience to rethink and explore the possibilities of freedom.

This year, Passoverdance is collaborating with the NUS Dance Synergy to present the work Maze: Shifting Boundaries with 12 dancers from each group. It is reflected in the sets—35 movable pillars, the ever-changing boundaries and limitations in life is translated into movements and patterns. Through constant altering formations, the dancers explores the space with shifting pillars and invites the audiences to rethink the possibilities of freedom. Maze: Shifting Boundaries has been invited to participate in “CODA Oslo International Dance Festival” in 2020 and “Festival Hong Kong 2019 – A Cultural Extravaganza at Shanghai” in 2019.
